Audiovisual installation: interactive imprinting of sound in water
نویسنده
چکیده
The present project is an interactive audiovisual creation, a sound and vision installation where the user interactively activates sound in its analog form. The sound is used to influence a physical medium (in this case a tank full of water) producing an image through the turbulences on its surface. This image, properly illuminated, is reflected and visualised in space. The installation is designed in such a way that allows, through an interactive application, the projection of sound on the water surface and the direct capture of that feedback, i.e. sound waves formed on water. At the same time, the reflected image is projected on a white surface (“imprint of sound” – projection of sound as image). The innovation of the project consists in the interactional mechanism of the system developed, which allowes the users to influence the final visual effect while they are moving in the room of the installation. Moreover, the interactive methodology chosen, allowed the system to work succesfully with the use of low-budget sensors, without that being a burden to the operability of the system. The programmes used for the interactive mechanism are open source softwares. For the detection of blobs from the camera has been used Processing, and for the sound SuperCollider.

متن کاملVirtual Pottery: An Interactive Audio-Visual Installation
Virtual Pottery is an interactive audiovisual piece that uses hand gesture to create 3D pottery objects and sound shape. Using the OptiTrack motion capture (Rigid Body) system at TransLab in UCSB, performers can take a glove with attached trackers, move the hand in x, y, and z axis and create their own sound pieces. Performers can also manipulate their pottery pieces in real time and change arr...
متن کاملTowards an Auditory Representation of Complexity
In applications of sonification, the information inferred by the sonification strategy applied often supersedes the amount of information which can be retrieved by the ear about the object of sonification. This paper focuses on the representation of complex geometric formation through sound, drawing on the development of an interactive installation sonifying escape time fractals as an example. ...
متن کاملTangible Sound: Musical Instrument Using Fluid Media
In this paper, we introduce “ Tangible Sound,” a musical instrument with a novel user interface that uses water. Like music, fluids cannot be physically grasped because their shape is constantly changing. We thus believe that water is a suitable interface for performing flowing music. We created a live, hands-on installation that uses the flow of water as an input medium to control the intuitiv...
